Congratulations to January 2022 Educator of the Month Ronda Johnston of University Preparation Charter School at CSU Channel Islands! Ronda was celebrated by colleagues and her students on January 14 with the recognition.
Thank you to Coastal Embroidery, our sponsor of this program, and to those who graciously donated items to our educators: Express Employment Professionals, John Gardner, KidSTREAM, Ventura County Credit Union and Marie Callender's of Camarillo.
Here's why Principal Charmon Evans nominated Ronda Johnston for the honor:
Ronda has held many roles at the school including serving on the leadership team, working with student teachers, and facilitating professional development for our school and for CSUCI.
Ronda regularly mentors student teachers from CSUCI. Ronda's ability to quickly develop strong relationships with student teachers, find their strengths and areas for growth is a fine-tuned skill.
Ronda is an exemplary teacher. She values academic excellence as well as the importance of a student's socio-emotional wellbeing. She establishes clear routines in her classroom and provides consistency.
The outcomes for students in Mrs. Johnston's classroom speak for themselves. Her students consistently show great growth in both academics and their ability to contribute to the community in positive ways.
Ronda has served on the school/district leadership team, School Site Council, and worked on the school's charter renewal multiple times over her tenure. Ronda has led parent education nights.
Ronda never stops growing and is always willing to share. When she identifies a need in her classroom, she will do what she needs to find the resources, learn the techniques, etc. to meet those needs.
Ronda is one of those special teachers that never looks to be in the limelight, in fact she probably avoids it, but she deserves to be recognized for her greatness and what she brings to this profession.
ABOUT THE EDUCATOR OF THE MONTH PROGRAM
The WVCBA Education Committee supports and plans the Camarillo Educator of the Month program each school year. The program began in 1987 by the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce to provide special recognition for local educators who have demonstrated excellence in carrying out their duties. Principals and parent-teacher organizations from Pleasant Valley, Somis, Oxnard Union and Ventura County Schools (in Camarillo area only), Mesa School Districts, Charter Schools and CSU Channel Islands are asked to nominate an educator. Six educators are recognized throughout the school year.
