Port of Hueneme bringing economic prosperity with local jobs & trade

Would you be surprised to learn that trade through the Port of Hueneme is responsible for 4% of Ventura County’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provides employment for 6% of Ventura County’s workforce with over 20,000 trade related jobs?  ​

To continue this legacy of employment and trade, the Port is working with the City of Oxnard to create a temporary parking lot on a vacant lot on Hueneme Road, which will help foster economic opportunity and reduce truck traffic in our communities. 

The project:

• Is integral to the Port’s competitiveness as one of the nation’s top six auto ports
• Is strategically located on Hueneme Road along the Port’s designated primary corridor from the Port to U.S. 101 on privately owned land that is zoned appropriately as light industrial
• Is temporary with a maximum of five years; For future growth, the Port is exploring several longer-term off-site development projects to further expand its global reach.  
• Will create 30 jobs for the life of the Project and use local trades and veteran labor for site development 
• Will consolidate auto staging to reduce diesel truck trips through neighborhoods near the Port
• Will remove noxious weeds with native species landscaping
• Will protect this property from other long term industrial development and preserve it for other potential opportunities the community may want to consider, such as a park or workforce training center.
