A big welcome to the eighth class of the Oxnard Leadership Program! The Class of 2024 met with state, county, and city government officials during their first session on January 26, including California Assemblymember Steve Bennett, County Clerk-Recorder Michelle Ascencion, County Supervisors Matt LaVere and Vianey Lopez, Oxnard Mayor Pro-tem Brian MacDonald, Oxnard City Manager Alex Nguyen, Oxnard City Councilmember Gabe Teran, and Oxnard Planning Commissioner Anna Zielsdorf. Oxnard Leadership Class of 2024 is generously supported by the Gene Haas Foundation. Government Day discussions about challenges and opportunities in Oxnard and throughout the county always set the stage for many of the topics the 13-member cohort will explore over the next nine months. Speakers touched upon opioid overdoses, emergency preparedness, the homeless crisis, water and energy resources, the election, and more. They also shared personal stories and reflections about their own leadership journeys, and insight on taking leadership roles and creating change in their businesses and communities.
