Oxnard Chamber Celebrates The City’s Top People, Businesses And Organizations

Winners will be honored at the 69th annual Community and Business Awards on April 25
 
OXNARD, Calif., FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – The Oxnard Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the nine recipients of its annual Community & Business Awards, which will be celebrated on Thursday, April 25, at 6:00 p.m. at the Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge.
 
Now in its 69th year, the Community & Business Awards honors outstanding individuals, businesses and organizations that make Oxnard a wonderful community to live, work and do business in.
 
"There are incredible people doing amazing things in Oxnard," says Chamber CEO Nancy Lindholm. "We're glad we could identify a few of them so we can honor their efforts."
 
Nominations are submitted by the public and reviewed by a selection committee. In addition to the nominations, the Oxnard Chamber Board of Directors selects an individual, business or organization to receive the Oxnard Trophy for bringing recognition to Oxnard and bettering the community.

The 2019 winners are:

  • Distinguished Citizen of the Year: Bryan MacDonald is a retired police officer with a long history of community involvement at the American Cancer Society Gold Coast Community Council, Elite Theater Company, the Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board for the County of Ventura Behavioral Health Department, and more. He also is Santa Claus for the Oxnard Christmas Parade and the annual Santa to the Sea half marathon!
  • Business Advocate of the Year: Mark Spellman of Lazer Broadcasting Corporation sits on the board of directors for Downtown Oxnard, the California Strawberry Festival and the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, and is committed to helping the community at large, not just the business community. 
  • Large Business of the Year: Ventura County Credit Union serves more than 80,000 members in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties while investing its profits back into the credit union to benefit local non-profit organizations and causes.
  • Small Business of the Year: JaniTek Cleaning Solutions in Oxnard gives back, supports and participates with community nonprofit organizations. Customer care is its priority and it is committed to sustainable business practices as a Green Certified Business. 
  • Best Place to Work: Puretec Industrial Water was certified in 2018 by independent analysts at Great Place to Work® with employees citing opportunities for advancement, work/life balance, attention to health and well-being, and more. 
  • Nonprofit Organization of the Year: Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association has been around since 1947 serving Ventura County with home health, palliative care, hospice, non-medical home care, and grief and bereavement services. 
  • Volunteer of the Year: Jeff McGreevy of the Oxnard Police Department raised more than $23,000 in 2018 for the Oxnard Police Explorers Foundation, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the American Cancer Society. In January 2019, he proposed an Oxnard PD commemorative patch to support Autism Awareness Month, which is currently underway. 
  • Innovative Business of the Year: CURE Pharmaceutical is changing the way medication and supplements are ingested through the manufacturing of a thin film that can deliver pharmaceuticals or dietary supplements in an easy-to-administer form. 
  • Oxnard Trophy: The Oxnard Salsa Festival attracts 35,000 attendees to Downtown Oxnard for an annual, two-day celebration of everything salsa: food, music and dance. 

The 69th annual Community & Business Awards will be held Thursday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge, which is located at 2101 West Vineyard Avenue, Oxnard, California, 93036. 
 
The event is open to the public. Dinner is $60 per person and reservations must be made in advance at OxnardChamber.org or by calling the Chamber office at (805) 983-6118.
