​Get to know Kat Miranda, our "Maven of the Month" brought to you by the WVCBA Women in Business committee. She is Chief Innovations and Sustainability Officer at Oxnard Pallet Company, which you've probably driven by many times at the corner of Pleasant Valley and 5th Street. They are a family-owned, full-service pallet provider offering quality new, used, food-grade and export pallets. 

​Tell us about you and/or the company you represent.
I am the Chief Innovations and Sustainability Officer at Oxnard Pallet Company, a family owned pallet business with 30 years of expertise in the industry. I proudly contribute and collaborate to find innovative and sustainable pallet solutions internally and externally with our employees, our customers, our industry and our world.

As someone involved in business in the region, how does the Alliance help you?
I’m able to foster relationships on a personal level with my community.

What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know?
90% of the durability in a pallet doesn’t come from the wood structure, it actually comes from the quality and type of nail. There are many other interesting facts to consider when ordering pallets. Connect with me, I’m happy to help! I promise you, you’ll never look at a pallet the same again.

Do you have any advice for new business owners?
Don’t wait till the last minute to order a pallet. Typically pallets are the last thing new owners think about when shipping their products. And if you’re shipping out your product in boxes, don’t invest in expensive boxes to protect your goods. Invest a few dollars more in your pallet instead. A solid foundation to support your load will save you thousands of dollars spent replacing damaged goods.

Any other details you wish to share?
I highly recommend reading “The Future Is Faster Than You Think” by Peter Diamandis. It really allowed me to reimagine the world and our future. It gives me a competitive advantage of converging technologies brewing, what’s coming down the pipeline sooner than we all think and being ready for this bright new world!
