Member Spotlight: Jubilee Legal

The WVCBA recently welcomed Jubilee Legal as a new member! Jubilee Legal offers legal advice and assistance for dealing with debt. "I have a particular expertise in student debt, and I love to assist community members in any way possible," says Founder Sparky Abraham.

How and when did the business get started?
I opened the practice in March 2022 when I left my job at Bet Tzedek Legal Services in Los Angeles.

What is the company's mission or motto?
You Are Not A Loan

Why did the business choose Ventura County as its location?
There is a tremendous need in Oxnard and in the county more broadly for legal help with debt. Thousands of small dollar debt collection lawsuits are filed in Ventura County each year, and fewer than 3% of people who are sued have attorneys. Those lawsuits have huge consequences for people's lives.

Are there any upcoming events you can tell us about?
There will be some joint events around rental debt and tenants' rights in the next couple months. Jubilee Legal also participates in Swap Meet Justice at the Oxnard College Swap Meet on the last Sunday of each month.
