Empowering Women in Business: Highlights from the WVCBA's Inaugural Women's Business Conference3/11/2024 On March 8, International Women's Day, CSU Channel Islands and WVCBA presented their inaugural Women's Business Conference. The conference brought together a diverse array of women (and men!) from various generations and backgrounds in the business world. The conference was filled with many highlights, beginning with the intergenerational panel discussion, where accomplished women shared their experiences, challenges, and successes in navigating the business landscape. Moderated by Montecito Bank & Trust CEO Janet Garufis, this panel provided valuable mentorship and guidance to attendees, illustrating the power of collaboration and support among women in business.
Another standout session was "The Art of Negotiating" by Gloria Miele, Ph.D., who delved into the gender wage gap and offered actionable tips for negotiating salary and benefits in today's competitive job market. Miele's expertise shed light on the importance of advocating for oneself and seeking equitable compensation, empowering women to assert their value and worth in the workplace. Keynote speaker Kristin Slanina captivated the audience with her compelling insights on succeeding in male-dominated industries. With a wealth of experience in her field, Slanina offered practical advice and strategies for overcoming obstacles and thriving in traditionally male-centric environments. Her empowering message resonated with attendees, inspiring them to break down barriers and chart their own paths to success. The conference culminated in a heartfelt closing statement by Vianey Lopez, District Supervisor for Ventura County, who shared her personal journey and expressed gratitude to the influential women who shaped her career and leadership trajectory. Lopez's tribute underscored the significant role of women in shaping California and Ventura County politics, serving as beacons of inspiration and change for future generations of women leaders. Overall, the Women's Business Conference was a resounding success, fostering dialogue, empowerment, and solidarity among women in business. The event served as a catalyst for personal and professional growth, equipping attendees with the knowledge, resources, and connections needed to thrive in their respective fields. As we continue to champion gender equality and women's empowerment, conferences like these play a pivotal role in advancing women's leadership and fostering a more inclusive and equitable business environment.
