WVCBA's Political Action Committee (PAC) has formally endorsed two candidates in the March Primary election for the Ventura County Board of Supervisor races. After reviewing the field of candidates, the PAC has endorsed incumbents Matt LaVere and Kelly Long in the races for District 1 and District 3, respectively. Supervisor Vianey Lopez is running uncontested for District 5. Matt LaVere: Ventura County Supervisor District 1 WVCBA's Political Action Committee voted to endorse Matt LaVere for Ventura County Supervisor District 1 that includes the cities and unincorporated areas of upper and lower Ojai Valley, west Ventura to northwest Oxnard, west Lockwood Valley and north to the Santa Barbara County line. LaVere was elected to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors in March 2020. Prior to that, he served on the Ventura City Council from 2016-2020, and was Ventura’s Mayor from 2018-2020. "Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and I have made it a top priority to be their advocate on the Board of Supervisors," he says. "The best way to drive economic growth and job creation is by supporting our local small business community, and we have made historic investments in supporting our local small businesses." Kelly Long: Ventura County Supervisor District 3 WVCBA's Political Action Committee voted to endorse Kelly Long for Ventura County Supervisor District 3 that includes the cities of Camarillo, Santa Paula, Fillmore, northeast Oxnard and the areas of El Rio, Nyeland Acres, East Lockwood Valley, Piru. Long is currently in her second term as County Supervisor and is an experienced businesswoman and working mother who holds six patents and a degree in mechanical engineering from California State University Long Beach. "Ventura County has a high cost of living and most families need high paying jobs to cover the cost of housing, food, child care, transportation, health care, and other expenses," she says. "My objective as County Supervisor is to work with companies to stay here and make it so jobs friendly that more companies want to move here rather than leave." The mission of the WVCBA's Political Action Committee (PAC) is to seek out, evaluate qualifications of, and endorse candidates for public office who support the ideals of our free enterprise system. The PAC evaluates candidates for local, county and state offices, and hosts candidate forums for local and state elections. The PAC is composed of current members of the Board of Directors.
