WVCBA is delighted to welcome S.L. Leonard & Associates as a member! From the Camarillo Library to Food Share to affordable housing, they manage capital improvement projects by assembling and managing a purpose-built team of designers, consultants and contractors from concept through occupancy. Gary Siroky, Principal, shares more about the business. How and when did S.L. Leonard & Associates get started? The business was started by Sean Leonard after his five-year employment agreement as Senior Vice President/Project Management for Walt Disney Concert Hall, Inc. was concluded after the successful opening in late 2003. What is the company's mission or motto? The Excitement is Building! What’s one thing you're known for over your competitors? We specialize in helping nonprofits with their real estate needs. From our first project, the Camarillo Library to current clients like Food Share of Ventura County, kidSTREAM Children's Museum and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard & Port Hueneme, we have a rich history in Ventura County and beyond. The largest segment of our practice is currently affordable housing, having helped our clients deliver over 8,000 units for seniors, veterans, special needs and transitional aged foster youth. Why did you choose Camarillo for the business location? After incorporating the business in 2004 when the City of Camarillo engaged us to oversee the Camarillo Library, it made sense to set our office up in Camarillo. Our Managing Principal lives in Oxnard so WVCBA is a perfect match for S.L. Leonard & Associates. Do you have any new or upcoming projects?
This year, we attended three grand openings for our affordable housing projects; Dolores Huerta Gardens, the 50-unit project in Oxnard, Vista Campanario, the 69-unit project in Camarillo and Ventura Springs, 120-units for veterans in Ventura. Additionally, we had the grand opening for the Vons store in our Central Plaza project, started the infrastructure for the new Costco in Camarillo and finished 27-units of transitional housing for foster youth at Casa Pacifica. How can the business community help? We would love to hear about businesses, nonprofits, houses of worship or private schools that may need to expand or renovate their facilities. Please add any additional details or information you want readers to know. S.L. Leonard has deep roots in the community, and although we have been involved with many signature projects and served major nonprofits and governmental agencies, we are most proud of the many awards over the years for our philanthropy, business ethics and service to youth.
